The Masonic Cons | Digital Edition
Digital Edition | July 2024
Since the mid-20th century, American Freemasonry’s educational ideal has been traded in for more social and networking Lodges. Masons seeking further light were pushed to newly formed research lodges, with no degree work or voting rights at annual communications. But, by the turn of this 21st century, there has been a resounding crescendo of demand for Masonic excellence. The Observant Movement has helped usher in a new level of respect for, and attention to detail in our lodges like never seen before; and from then, more internal Masonic education began to grow. From those Observant creative grass-roots, Masonic Cons were born; and they have been bursting forth all across the USA and, more recently, in Canada as well.
So, just what is Masonry’s role in public education, inside and outside of our Blue Lodges? What makes Masonic Cons so exciting and interesting—to the public as well as to Masons? What are we doing at the lodge level to keep our members engaged; and most importantly, learning? These are the questions we will probe in the following pages. In reading these, perhaps you will be inspired to create your own Masonic educational programs at your lodge.
